Knowing that the Eucharist was a ministry reserved for the baptized, the pastor closed his eyes quickly, and silently prayed, “O Christ, what do I do? A person whom I know is NOT baptized is coming to receive the Lord’s Supper. And you did say we should never cast pearls before swine.”
Jesus replied, “Feed my sheep.”
“Yes, O Christ,” he replied, “but did you not say that the child is to be fed before the dogs?”
Jesus replied, “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from my table.”
“Yes, O Christ,” he said, “but this person has not been washed clean in the waters of Holy Baptism.”
Jesus replied, “Do not call unclean that which I have made clean.”
The pastor opened his eyes to see a person standing before him with hands reaching out to receive the sacred bread.
“We are all beggars,” said the Pastor.
“This is most certainly true," was the reply.
