One man was a baker, who came from a long line of bakers, who insisted that his grandmother had baked this sweet loaf based on an ancient family recipe. The other man was a merchant, who swore that his grandmother had purchased this very loaf so many years ago, and that it belonged to him by rights.
Back and forth the men would struggle over who had ownership of the bread. One would steal it from the other, only to have it taken away by the other’s friends. One would hold the family of the other hostage, but to no avail. Each man’s children would even bully the others on the playground.
On and on went the fight, to the point that no one could really remember who owned the bread, or why it was in such dispute, or even how the golden braids of dough would even taste.
Once there were two men who fought bitterly over a loaf of bread. Then both men died…hungry.
